November News

Things are rolling at Peaks Island Elementary. We are in the midst of a very cool whole school learning opportunity made possible by the Peaks Island Fund. All of our students are participating in "Our Island as a Classroom"

The "Island as a Classroom" grant is fully underway with Daisy Braun, our artist in residence. Students visited the beaches,  took water samples, and looked through microscopes with Professor Mark Green. Nurse Jeanne and Daisy, while learning quite a bit about what "lies beneath." Students are creating art projects related to their learning. Parents had the first opportunity to see these wonderful pieces of art during parent teacher conferences on Oct. 29th.

Our 4th and 5th graders are becoming social entrepreneurs and marketers. Our 4th/5th class is partnering with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) to do a bulk order of Peaks Island Elementary apparel. The students will be approaching local partners to possibly carry the apparel or allow for marketing of buying the apparel at school. The students made an impactful presentation to the PTO in October which prompted the PTO to partner with the students. We are hoping this is an opportunity for the wider community to be able to wear with pride some Peaks Island Elementary gear!

We have created a Leadership Team at Peaks. Congratulations to Bridget Joyce (Library/Steam/Interventionist), Ben Robinson (2nd/3rd), and Melissa Mezzapelle (PreK) for being elected by their colleagues to support Peaks continued evolution.

As a school community we were excited to have Family Conferences on October 29th to share all the wonderful learning our students have been doing.

Welcome November,
